Long Ashton Golf Course
At 6,400 yards off the white (medal) tees, Long Ashton is a jewel of a course, packed with features and challenges for all abilities. The par is 71 (74 for ladies off the red tees), and the longest hole is the recently lengthened 5th, at 544 yards.

Hole 1
The Long Ashton course opens with a straightforward hole which has no special difficulties. A straight drive between two mounds and a bold approach to the green, which is well banked at the back, should do the trick.
Hole 2
This is the shortest hole on the course, and is played over a road. A high dropping shot is required to the shelf-like green which is backed by rugged rocks.
Hole 3
A blind tee shot with trouble on the right, as the fairway falls away dramatically to heavy rough. The elevated green offers fine views of the city of Bristol and surrounding countryside.
Hole 4
We now come to one of the longest and most difficult holes. Rough and gorse provide trouble along the right and on the left is a pond to catch a hooked drive... so the drive must be straight. As the ground falls to the right there is a second direction post indicating the line for the next shot.
Hole 5
The fifth has recently been extended, and is now a challenging par 5. The small oak on the left of the fairway is a favourite line for the tee shot. Steeply sloping terrain to the right of the fairway has ruined many a card - beware the sliced second shot!
Hole 6
An elevated tee, with a fine view towards the green (pictured). Again, a sliced shot is punished by heavy rough. The bank on the right of the green tends to hold a wayward approach, whereas undergrowth to the left should definiely be avoided!
Hole 7
A long par 4 into the prevailing wind. Water, not visible from the tee, will catch an errant tee shot to the left, whilst woodland awaits on the right.
Hole 8
A short par 4, with a green that is reachable with a faded tee shot. Out of Bounds will punish a sliced tee shot or a thinned approach.
Hole 9
The green is well protected by 4 bunkers, but otherwise this is a straightforward hole. People often prefer to play short, leaving an uphill putt.
Hole 10
The tee-shot crosses the road and requires a carry of approximately 130 yards, followed by an accurate long iron shot into the prevailing wind to the well-bunkered green.
Hole 11
As the tee for this hole is near to the Club House, it presents a very good alternative starting point when necessary. It is slightly elevated and recessed close to a small coppice and calls for a long carry of approximately 200 yards to clear a gully. Club selection for the second shot is made more difficult by the fact that the green has no background, and is guarded by bunkers on the right.
Hole 12
Made longer by the prevailing wind, this par 4 presents no other hidden problems.
Hole 13
A tough par 3, with Out of Bounds on the right, dense undergrowth on the left, and challenging bunkers around the green.
Hole 14
A drawn tee shot over the nearest bunker will leave the ball running down towards the green.
Hole 15
Stroke index 1, made more difficult by the prevailing wind, especially from the white tee, which adds considerably to the yardage.
Hole 16
A fade off the tee can bring the green into range on this lovely par 4. The two-tiered green is never the same!
Hole 17
Apparently straightforward, this par 3 is made harder by the fact that the bunkers are invisible from most tee positions. It can also be a long hit on a windy day.
Hole 18
The round is completed with a long par 5. There are no special difficulties if one plays straight for the green. A wood which runs along the right of the fairway will cause disaster to any cut shot. Players tend to underclub the approach due to the hollow in front of the green.
