Tree Catalogue

50 years ago, our course was open heathland.

Now we have around 1,800 trees, determining how the course looks throughout the year and the strategic decisions we have to make when playing it!

So far, 1,300 of the trees (including virtually all those on the West side of Providence Lane) have been numbered and identified; the complete list and a simple map showing their approximate locations are shown below.

We have at least 95 different species, including 24 defined as “native to the UK”, providing a wide variety of form and colour and a mixed habitat for wildlife.

I would appreciate receiving any comments about mis-identification, or dates or reasons for planting (e.g. in memory of members).

There are another 500 trees on the East side of Providence Lane and the exercise to catalogue them all is continuing slowly.

I hope that the list can help us to treasure the diversity we already have, and be of value as we make decisions about future management of the trees, which have become a major factor defining the character of our course.
