Ladies
We have an extremely successful, friendly and welcoming Ladies' section with handicaps ranging from +2 to 40+ with lots of young and more mature players who play competitively and socially most days of the week. Our Ladies competitions (Medals and Stablefords) are played in 3s, on a Thursday and Sunday but Ladies are also welcome to play in the many Club competitions which run on Wednesdays and Sundays throughout the playing season and some Saturdays if there is not a Men's Trophy competition. We also have Mixed competitions on Bank Holidays and other dates throughout the year.
All ladies are automatically members of the Gloucester Ladies County Association and subject to competition condition, may play in County events.
Our ladies have two teams in the Bristol & District Alliance. Players for these teams are chosen in handicap order and matches are played off scratch with our first team in the top division and the second team playing slightly lower in the league. Our ladies won the Overall Gross Team championships in September 2021 and were the runners up in the Alliance Scratch cup which we were the holders of in 2020. We also play Friendly matches against other local Clubs and these matches provide a great opportunity to learn how to play singles match play and play at lots of other local clubs before progressing up into the Alliance matches.
New Lady Members will be given a 'Buddy' who will be able to help you with any queries you may have and quickly meet other ladies and become involved in the section.
Any other information you may need please contact the office who will then point you in the right direction!
Seniors
The Seniors Section comprises over 200 members of the Club and is particularly active, with extensive fixtures against other Clubs and numerous internal competitions throughout each year. Arranging two Seniors Opens in May and September, very popular and well attended, are highlights of the Seniors year. These are organised by the Seniors Committee, who will always welcome any help from members, whether voluntary or potentially as a Committee member in a number of roles.
The Section is easy to join and open to any Club member aged 55 or over. A short application form, together with a one-off joining fee for life of £15, is all that is required. A form is available from the Office, the Seniors Membership Secretary or can be printed from the Seniors Section website pages.
Recently, with the popularity of golf and the reputation of the Club, there have been many new Seniors members and the Captain and Committee will look forward to welcoming you. They are always on hand to help and guide you towards whatever form of Seniors golf you wish to play, whether just social, or perhaps within one of several roll-up groups, or more competitively in matches and competitions.
Juniors
Nathan Moore, Sam Harrison and Sam Williams played at Frilford Heath in August and after a fantastic final round and great team effort won the England Golf event representing Gloucester County on countback - the future is looking good for Long Ashton Juniors.
This runs throughout the winter months, contact pro shop for more information or email junior organiser
These generally run on Monday evenings during the main season, with 2 groups, some playing competitive golf on the course and the others playing with a volunteer adult or having on course coaching with the professional staff but more coaching and courses are offered during school holidays subject to interest from the juniors.
Extra group coaching is also included which will vary each week.
We welcome all the new juniors who have joined the club over the last year and hope they enjoy their time at LAGC, we now have over 80 juniors with some younger girls doing really well which is great to see and the list keeps on growing, you too could be the next Chris Wood!
Teams
We run 3 mens teams, 2 ladies teams and a junior team all in various leagues and also the Seniors and Ladies play friendly fixtures against other local clubs throughout the season. These are open to a wide range of members allowing competitive golf at other courses for everyone.
